Ask Our Men in Black: Q & A About Our Men In Black Diocese of New Ulm Prayer For Vocations Our MIB Home
Is the wine used in a Mass different from those sold in the market?

Yes and no. The wine that we use at Mass has to be made from grapes and nothing else (though some preservatives may be added). When Christ celebrated the last supper, He used grape wine then, and so we use it today.

Most parishes purchase their wine from a Church-goods company that sells religious and church articles like wine, candles, vestments, etc.

You can buy wine from the market for a mass as long as it is made from grapes and is of good quality.
