Exactly what does a call from God sound like?
So often, the call from God is so easily dismissed. Certainly, it is not a call like someone calling us in for supper. But it is a certain 'pull' toward Him, finding a joy that only comes from Him. As St. Augustine wrote, "Our hearts are restless, until the rest in Thee, O God." God's call can be confirmed in the voices of those around us - comments that they notice we really enjoy doing something (serving Mass, helping the elderly, etc) or that they see a priestly quality in us (gentleness, compassion, a desire for holiness). God's call can come rather suddenly and unexpectedly - an immediate understanding of God's desire. Think of the conversion of St. Paul. More often than not, though, the call comes gradually, more like the gradual understanding of St. Peter. If you are feeling the 'tug' of God, please respond.
