Monsignor Leifeld died on Holy Thursday evening, March 24, 2005, as he was preparing to concelebrate the Mass of the Lord's Supper with Bishop Nienstedt and the parishioners of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. He was born December 7, 1912. He was ordained in 1938. For those of you who were never good at math that adds up to 92 years old and almost 67 years in the priesthood. Over the years, he served at some eleven parishes throughout the diocese. Today, many of those parishes still have schools that he helped build. (Education was always big in his book). In retirement, Monsignor enjoyed his favorite past time - golf. While he admitted he was no Tiger Woods, he did manage the occasional hole in one. (He realized some might consider that a miracle!) He loved visitors and playing cards. Truly, he was a faithful priest and a wonderful gentleman. Always quick with a wise word, he was loved and will be deeply missed. Having served God and the Church so faithfully, we pray that God would give him rest from his labors. If you have any questions about the priesthood, please visit the Frequently Asked Questions.
